Juicing

juicer with pressing container on stand, funnel and jug

Stainless steel manual juicer suitable for wheet grass, fruit and vegetables. As the pulp still contains some juice, I put the pulp into a hydraulic press. The pulp is ejected through the front nozzle and falls into a fine mesh nylon bag inside a perforated s/s container (an old straigt sided tea pot from a charity shop with holes drilled around the lower sides, and the top cut off). This container sits inside a dish which catches the juice, and a wooden plug (the plunger) is put on top of the pulp bag and then the lot placed into the press.

hydraulic juice press

A home built hydraulic juice press, made from a few boards, a bottle car jack with a thick iron plate welded to the top (£5 at a local engeneers shop). You can also buy this type of press for about £300, with the frame made of steel, but my wooden version functions just as well. Instructions on how to build one to follow shortly.
